Employ Sports For Improved Productivity, Service Delivery, FCTA Charges SDAs

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has enjoined all Secretariats, Departments and Agencies (SDAs) to embrace sports activities for improved health to boost Productivity and service delivery.

Accordingly, sports is aimed at improving the health status of workforce, thereby increasing efficiency in productivity, promote peace and unity, ensure physical fitness and to boost social interaction among staff in the SDAs.

The Director, Education Resource Centre (ERC), Dr. Neemat Daud Abdulrahim, gave the charge, while speaking with Abuja Digest, on ‘Day one’ of the ERC Staff Annual Sports Competition in, Zone 7, Wuse I District, Abuja.

Abdulrahim explained that apart from health benefit, sport activities are essential to every human being, because they bring about peace and unity, social interaction and physical fitness, which results to boost in productivity in an organization.

The Director, who called on all other sister organizatios in the FCTA to emulate the footsteps of the ERC to enjoy all the benefits of sports, also charged the staff to participate passionately in the on-going competition to keep the initiation worth emulating.

“Irrespective of age, staff of every SDAs are suppose to embrace sports activities. Sport connects different people to be one family, it promotes good health, thereby boost efficiency in production. Above all, ‘all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’, “she said.

The Director revealed that the Centre initially introduced this sport activities about three years ago as an inter-divisional one, but due to an imbalance of staff strength in some divisions, the management of the department used the nominal roll to share houses to the staff; adding that the Centre also used the past five substantive Directors to name the Houses after them.

Abdulrahim said, if the SDAs can emulate what the Centre is doing by embracing and organizing sport competitions, the FCT Administration can further organize interdepartmental sport competition to boost Productivity, thereby enhance the socio-economic lives of the residents of FCT.

Also speaking at the occasio, the Sport Coordinator of the Centre, Mr. Balogun Babatunde Hakeem, emphasized that since the Department introduced the sport activities, the staff of the Centre have always been anxious to participate in the activities in order not to miss the benefits.

Hakeem, who reiterated that the initiation is worth emulating due to the expected benefits, he called on the Secretariats, Departments and Agencies to emulate appropriately what the Centre has initiated few years ago.
