The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Sports Department is mourning the loss of one of its most dedicated staff members, Bosede Momoh, who passed away on Easter Monday at the National Hospital, Abuja, after a period of illness.

In an official statement, the Director of Sports, Luka Istifanus, described Momoh as “an exceptional figure in Nigerian refereeing and a committed sports administrator whose legacy will continue to inspire.”

“Bosede was more than just a colleague—she was a mentor, a leader, and a beacon of integrity in the officiating and sports community,” Istifanus said. “Her contributions to the growth of sports, particularly martial arts, in the FCT were both impactful and enduring.”

Until her death, Bosede was the officer in charge of karate and taekwondo at the FCT Sports Department, a role in which she demonstrated unwavering dedication to the development of martial arts in the region. Her efforts were instrumental in nurturing talent and promoting discipline and excellence among young athletes.

Momoh earned her FIFA badge in the 2009 season and officiated in several prestigious tournaments, including the Africa Women’s Championship. She retired from active refereeing in 2020 after over a decade of distinguished service on both the national and international scene.

Post-retirement, she remained actively involved in football as a referee assessor in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and was a key figure in the FCT Referees Council. She also played a vital role in the National Physical Fitness Instructors group, regularly participating in pre-season fitness programs in Abuja.

“She was a source of inspiration to young referees and athletes alike, and her compassionate, disciplined approach made her a role model to many,” Istifanus added.

The FCT Sports Department joins the Nigerian sporting community in extending heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues. Bosede Momoh will be sorely missed, but her legacy will live on.
