Arsenal forward Kai Havertz is set to miss the rest of the season after sustaining a torn hamstring during the team’s training camp in Dubai.

The Athletic reported on Tuesday that Havertz was to be assessed after suffering the injury. It is unclear yet whether the 25-year-old will require surgery on the problem but his focus is on getting fit for the start of the 2025-26 season.

Havertz’s expected absence adds to Arsenal’s issues in their forward line. Bukayo Saka travelled with the squad to Dubai but is expected to be out until March after undergoing hamstring surgery in December. Gabriel Martinelli is not anticipated to return for around a month after picking up a hamstring injury of his own against Newcastle United on February 5 and Gabriel Jesus faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in his left knee last month.

Havertz had been available for almost every game for Arsenal this season, registering 15 goals and five assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.

Arsenal were actively looking for attacking reinforcements in the winter transfer window but did not make any signings.

The north London club did bid for Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins but the deal did not proceed and instead, they opted to focus on long-term targets for the summer window.

Arsenal have been hampered by injuries across the pitch this season, with Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Riccardo Calafiori, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Mikel Merino and Martin Odegaard all missing for periods.

Havertz’s injury leaves Arteta with just three senior forwards to choose from up front in Leandro Trossard, Ethan Nwaneri and Raheem Sterling.

Mikel Arteta’s side are second in the Premier League, six points behind leaders Liverpool, and face a trip to Leicester City on Saturday in their next game. They then host West Ham United on February 22 and travel to Nottingham Forest four days later to close out the month.
