Innovation Desk Officers in the Federal Capital Territory Administration have been called upon to go all out and come up with ideas that when implemented will impact positively on the administration and residents.

The call came during the first interactive session for desk officers across the SDA’s organised by the Reform Coordination and Service Improvement Department.

In her welcome address, Acting Director, Reform Coordination and Service Improvement Department, Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, who drew attention to the theme: “Driving Innovation For Sustainable Development In The FCT”, underscored the vital role innovation plays in driving development.

She, therefore, called on the Innovation Desk Officers to see themselves as drivers of positive change in the society, adding that focus on behavioural change, openess to accept challenges and adapting to new ideas are paths towards achieving the desired objectives.

“We are tasked with enormous responsibilities of making a difference in the lives we serve,” Ahmadu said.
“Each interaction, decision and action we take should be guided by a profound sense of duty. Let us remember that innovation is not just an abstract concept. It is a practical tool that enables us to find solutions to challenges that we face in service delivery of our dear Capital City.”

Ahmadu also pointed out the need to engage with residents as a recipe for the right policy formulation as well as effective service delivery.

The high point of the meeting was the interaction between the desk officers, who shared experiences, frustrations, visions and also proffered ways of dealing with some of the problems associated with change.

Consequently it was stressed that Innovation Desk Officers should not just come up with random ideas, but rather should work towards developing tailor-made ideas that can address issues and add value to their respective SDAs and the FCTA as a whole.
