Mohamed Salah admitted life under new Liverpool boss Arne Slot is “quite different” to former manager Jurgen Klopp following his man of the match performance in the 2-0 win over Ipswich on the opening day of the Premier League season.
Salah set up Diogo Jota to open the scoring at Portman Road early in the second half before scoring himself in what became a dominant Liverpool display in the second half.
The Egyptian’s goal was the ninth time he has netted on the opening day of the season, setting a new Premier League record.
With the goal and an assist, the Egyptian player became the first player in the history of the competition to record nine goals in the opening match day. He is also the player with the most involvements, 14, in the first match of the season.
“I’m glad we won today, it’s always great to make an impact for the team and win the game, that’s the most important thing,” Salah told TNT Sports at full time.
“I don’t know why i have so much success on the first day of the season but hopefully I can continue it for the full season and not just the first game.”
“I’m always trying to help the team – the most important thing is that the team wins the game. I’m always keen to score goals and provide assists so I need to carry on.”
Liverpool got off to a sluggish start in the first half, failing to register a shot on target against a bullish Ipswich side fresh off promotion from the Championship.
The visitors shifted gears in the second half, however, dominating the majority of the last 45 minutes.
The game marked new manager Arne Slot’s first competitive outing as Liverpool boss following the departure of Jurgen Klopp at the end of last season.
