Nigeria Drops In FIFA Latest Ranking

Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped eight places in the latest FIFA ranking, a consequence of their disappointing results in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The three-time African champions have moved from 30th position to 38th in the latest ranking, which is as a result of their draw against South Africa and loss to Benin in the qualification campaign.

The results against the Bafana Bafana and Cheetahs have put the West African side at the risk of missing out in the biggest football competition for the second consecutive time, which has also affected their placing in world football.

Nigeria have also dropped to 5th position in Africa , with Morocco, Senegal, Ivory Coast and Egypt all ranked higher than them.

Argentina, France, Belgium, Brazil are the four highest ranking team with England climbing up to 5th position, while Portugal, Netherlands, Spain, Croatia and Italy completing the top 10.

Liberia are the biggest climbers, having climbed up 10 places with fellow African side Equatorial Guinea suffering the biggest downgrades as they have moved down 10 places

The rankings use the Elo model which uses team strength, match importance, and results to determine the rankings.
