Nigeria had three players named in the official Team of the Tournament released by the CAF Technical Study Group after the end of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Centre back Calvin Bassey, midfielder Ademola Lookman, and striker Victor Osimhen all made the Best XI after playing key roles in Nigeria’s campaign at the tournament in Morocco.
The Super Eagles finished third after beating Egypt 4 to 2 on penalties in the playoff match. This came after Nigeria was knocked out in the semifinals by hosts Morocco, also on penalties, in a painful end to their title hopes.
Bassey was a steady presence in defence throughout the competition, and he featured in every match except the third-place game against Egypt, which he missed due to suspension. The Fulham defender helped goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali keep three clean sheets and was one of Nigeria’s most reliable players at the back.
Lookman was Nigeria’s standout performer and one of the best players at the tournament. The Atalanta star recorded seven goal involvements with three goals and four assists. He was also named Man of the Match in Nigeria’s wins against Tunisia and Mozambique.
Osimhen led the line with authority and scored four goals during the tournament. His tally made him the second-highest goalscorer, finishing behind Morocco forward Brahim Diaz.
Morocco and Senegal dominated the Team of the Tournament with four players each, while Nigeria placedthree players on the list.
