Drug Abuse: FCTA Collaborates With NDLEA

In a bid to arrest the increasing cases of drug abuse, particularly among youths in the FCT, the Federal Capital Territory Administration has concluded plans to collaborate with the National Police Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to turn the tide.
Accordingly, the Area Council Services Secretariat will join forces with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to rid all the Area Councils, Satellite Towns as well as rural communities of the Territory of drug abuse.
The Secretary, FCT Area Councils Services Secretariat (ACSS), Bitrus Lawrence Garki, made this revelation, while he paid a courtesy call on
the NDLEA Commandant FCT Command in Abuja.
The Secretary opined that in a metropolitan city like Abuja where many people are trying to make a living and have a secure place to live, drug abuse among the youths posses a great threat to their lives and future.
Garki stated that collaboration with the NDLEA has become necessary to urgently and strategically address this menace to avoid further damage to the fabric of the society.
He assured the Commandant that ACSS is totally committed to partnering with his team to eradicate harmful substances and drug use among youths in FCT.
According to him, on his part he has already set in motion measures such as the establishment of the Community Engagement Team across the six Area Councils structured to gather intelligence, in combating insecurities of which some are as a result of drug abuse.
The Secretary, however, expressed confidence that the partnership between the NDLEA and ACSS will further strengthen the efforts to create a sustainable FCT and create a brighter future for the youths.
Responding, the NDLEA Commander in FCT, NDLEA FCT Commander, Kabir NDLEA FCT Commander, Kabir Tsakuwa, assured the Secretary of the willingness of his team’s support to ensure that the goal is effectively achieved.
