The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Administration (FCTA) Chapel, has joined the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day, urging women to continue contributing their best to society and to support one another to achieve greater success.

In a statement issued in Abuja to commemorate the occasion, the Chairperson of the NUJ FCTA Chapel, Ngozi Ufomba, said this year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” underscores the invaluable role women play across different sectors and the rewards that come from dedication, resilience and commitment.

She noted that women who invest their energy, skills, and passion in their professional and personal pursuits often gain recognition, opportunities, and greater achievements.

According to her, the theme is particularly relevant to women journalists in the Federal Capital Territory who continue to demonstrate professionalism, hard work, and excellence in their duties.

Ufomba appreciated the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, and the Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, for their commitment to advancing women’s empowerment within the FCT Administration.

She described the establishment of the Women’s Secretariat in the FCTA as a major step toward creating opportunities and enabling women to thrive in governance and other areas of development.

The NUJ FCTA Chapel Chairperson also praised the leadership of the FCT Administration for fostering policies and programmes that promote the welfare and participation of women and children.

She encouraged women to continue supporting one another, striving for excellence, and making meaningful contributions to national development.

Ufomba further prayed for wisdom and strength for the FCT Minister to sustain policies that promote inclusiveness and create an enabling environment for women and children to flourish.

Abuja Digest reports that the International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8 to recognise the achievements of women and to advocate for gender equality and women’s empowerment worldwide.
