The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has held its monthly fitness exercise and staff engagement session aimed at boosting physical health, mental stability, and service delivery among its workforce.

The exercise, which was led by the Acting Head of Service of the FCT Civil Service, Mrs. Nancy Sabanti Nathan, brought together management and staff from various Secretariats, Departments, and Agencies across the FCT Administration, as well as a contigent from the Abuja Municipal Area Council on Saturday 17 October, 2026.

Speaking at the event, the Acting Head of the FCT Civil Service said the exercise was organised to encourage physical fitness, promote unity among workers and sustain support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President.

Nathan said the initiative was also an opportunity for civil servants to express appreciation to the President and the FCT Minister for their efforts in infrastructure development, healthcare, education, transportation, and other essential services.

She emphasised that the exercise would be a continuous programme rather than a one-off event, explaining that different secretariats had volunteered to sponsor subsequent editions.

According to her, the Education Secretariat is expected to host the next edition in November, while the Arts and Culture Secretariat will sponsor the December edition, followed by the Federal Capital Development Authority in January.

She explained that participation was not mandatory for staff and encouraged them to prioritise their health and well-being.

Nathan expressed optimism that participation would increase at subsequent editions as more staff became aware of the benefits of the initiative.

She added that the programme would be diversified to include medical checks, aerobics and cultural activities, giving workers opportunities to exercise while celebrating the cultural diversity of the FCT workforce.

The Acting Head of Service also encouraged staff to patronise the FCTA clinic, noting that free medical services and drugs were available to support their health needs.

She explained that the clinic operates from Monday to Friday until the close of work, with an ambulance available to respond to emergencies.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Engr. Richard Dauda, commended the initiative, describing physical exercise as an important component of staff health and productivity.

Dauda disclosed that the authority had recently discussed ways to improve workers’ health through regular exercise, following concerns about staff falling ill.

He said the invitation to participate in the exercise was therefore timely, adding that physical activity contributes to mental and emotional well-being, which are essential components of overall health.

According to him, a healthy workforce is better positioned to achieve organisational goals and deliver improved services to residents of the Federal Capital Territory.

Abuja Digest reports that the exercise included a walk which started from the FCTA secretariat to the Federal Secretariat and back, some light aerobics as well as health checks for participating staff from across the various FCTA secretariats, departments and agencies.
