The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), will do everything within its power to maintain the standard of education in the Federal Capital Territory.

This is aimed at ensuring the protection of the long existing standard of education for positive development in the Territory.

The Director of the FCT Education Resource Centre (FCT-ERC), Dr. Neemat Daud Abdulrahim, gave this assurance at the Gifted School, Gwagwalada, Abuja, while inspecting 466 candidates that sat for screening test for admission.

Abdulrahim said the examination was conducted for candidates from various public and private schools in FCT to strictly assess and offer admission basically to those who make the necessary requirements.

The Director disclosed that the candidate from the public schools to be considered for admission must have obtained 8 ‘A’s, while 9 ‘A’s for candidates from private schools in their Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE).

She revealed that the essence of the screening test is to thoroughly evaluate the candidates that would be admitted into Gifted school, Gwagwalada.

Her words: “ This will ascertain their grades in their previous certificates, to select the best out of the candidates that sat for the screening test and to further test their capability before being considered for admission into the school.”

Abdurahim also disclosed that for a student to be considered ‘passed’ for the screening test, the candidate must score an average of 70% and the cut off point is also determined by the performance of the candidates that sat for the examinations in a particular academic year.

She further revealed that the 466 candidates from public and private schools who sat for the examinations are competing for the 300 available space in the school.

According to her, the nature of the examinations for the candidates are in Mathematics, English Language and General Knowledge.

The Director, who embarked on a monitoring tour of the examinations, stressed the need for the candidates to approach every subject and topic wholeheartedly.
