The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has carried out post assessment of areas affected by flood in the Territory.
The Post Assessment Team from the FCT Emergency Management Department, (FEMD) also conducted profiling of those affected Persons and households to ensure a first hand data is obtained by the government for accurate planning and implementation.
The Post Assessment was necessitated due to the aftermath of floods occasioned by a heavy downpour last Friday at Agwan Hakimi, Orozo in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
Regrettably, the FEMD Team discovered that the floods claimed one life, injured one person and destroyed over 10 houses and some farmlands.
The Team, however, attributed the heavy floods in the area to a narrow culvert in the area and poor drainage systems.
In a statement in Abuja, Thursday, the Ag. Director-General of FEMD, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed, has directed that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, be communicated to re-construct the base of electricity pole destroyed by the floods and restore power to the area.
Mohammed has also directed that the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), be communicated immediately to expand the narrow culvert to ensure free flow of storm water.
The Director-General said that FEMD will also carry out a post assessment of farmlands destroyed by floods last Friday at Yaba in Abaji Area Council.
Mohammed, who noted that the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency,NIHSA, has warned of of heavy floods in the coming Weeks, appealed to the residents living along the river banks to relocate.
He, particularly noted rising water levels around the Road that links Yaba and Gulu in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State.
Mohammed said that he has opened channels of communication with the Etsu Yaba, Alhaji Yakubu Aliyu on the matter.
He appealed to residents to always use the 112 Emergency toll-free number in the event of any emergency.
