2024 French Teachers’ Day: FCTA Enjoins Teachers To Develop More Skills

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has charged the French Teachers in FCT schools to be proactive to develop more skills in teaching of the international language to further encourage students.

The teaching and learning of the French is important, because most of Nigeria neighbors it shares International borders with are French speaking.

Accordingly, the charge is aimed to further enhance the cross cultural communication in our contemporary societies.

Mandate Secretary, Education Secretariat, FCTA, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, gave this charge while addressing Stakeholders at ceremony in commemoration of the international French Teachers Day at the Education Resource Centre Multipurpose Hall, Zone 7, Wuse I District, Abuja.

Hayyo, who was represented at the occasion by the Director of Special Duties, Education Secretariat, FCTA, Hajiya Ramatu Abu, called for adequate support from the French Embassy in Nigeria and the Nigerian French Teachers.

In an exclusive interview with the Abuja Digest at the occasion, the Fonds Equipe France (FEF) Project Coordinator for Embassy of France in Nigeria and the President, Nigerian French Teachers’ Association (NFTA), Mr. Henry Babajide, said that the inclusiveness of French language in Nigeria school curriculum is a window that introduces Nigerian students to learn different cultures from France as a nation.

Babajide charged all the French Teachers and Students to teach and learn the language with passion; adding that the language was not introduced to Nigeria school curriculum in error.

Speaking earlier, the Director of FCT Education Resource Centre (FCT-ERC), Dr. Neemat Daud Abdulrahim, said that the International French Teachers’ Day is a special day often celebrated every 21st of November, which does not just portrays French Teachers as special people but individuals with high potential that cannot be ignored by the World.

AbdulRahim, who was represented at the occasion by the Head of Department (HOD), Guidance and Counselling of ERC, Alhaji Yahaya Abdulwahab, also said French is a language of culture, science and humanism, which is more than just a tool for communication, but also a window to the World and a bridge between people.

She used the opportunity to appreciate the Embassy of France for their countless and continuous collaborative benefits that the FCT French Teachers have enjoyed so far.
