FCT Minister Seeks Greater Synergy With Judiciary to Fight Crime

In a bid to ensure speedy dispensation of justice to all in the Federal Capital Territory, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT), Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello, has called for greater synergy between the FCT Administration and the FCT Judiciary.

The Minister made this call while commissioning the Garki Division of the FCT High Court, Abuja on Thursday.

Mallam Bello who was represented at the occasion by the FCT Permanent Secretary, Adesola Olusade commended the FCT Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Husseini Yusuf for taking the bold step and initiative to establish the Garki Division of the FCT High Court.

The Minister expressed confidence that the new Division of the Court will further improve the efficiency of the Court in the discharge of its responsibilities as well as respond timely to the exponential population surge and fast-paced development of the nation’s capital city.

His words: “When the intention of the Court to establish the Garki Division was first presented to us, we did not hesitate to give the project the full support of the FCT Administration, taking into cognizance the exponential growth of the nation’s capital and the increasing need for judicial services by the residents. It is my firm believe that this move will enhance the efficiency of the Court in carrying out its responsibilities.”

Speaking further, Mallam Bello lauded the FCT Judiciary for assembling the best crop of judicial officers in the country over the years as well as maintaining consistent quality service delivery to the general public.

He said: “The FCT Judiciary prides itself not only in the quality of its personnel, but also in the quality of services rendered to members of the public. We have been fortunate in the FCT to have some of the best judicial officers in the country serving here.”

He described the role of judiciary as highly indispensable for peace and security of the Territory, and therefore, called for stronger collaboration between the FCT Administration and the Judiciary for the purpose of eradicating criminalities in FCT.

“The role of the Judiciary in our fight against crime and criminality cannot be overstated in a modern city like Abuja with its rapid population growth.

Welcoming guests to the occasion, the FCT Chief Judge, Justice Husseini Yusuf said the establishment of the Garki Division of the High Court of FCT was in keeping faith with the constitutional mandate of the Court to provide access to justice to all manners of men and institutions, thereby, promoting the rule of law and good governance in the Federal Capital Territory.
