The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has embarked on an exercise to rid the Kafe and Dape Districts of the Territory of illegal structures, shanties as well as other Abuja Master Plan infringements.

The Director, Development Control, Tpl. Muktar Galadima, the Management Team of the Department and the team from Abuja Environment Protection Board (AEPB), who carried out the exercise penultimate weekend, said that most of these structures especially those on road corridors has defaced that axis.

According to him, this was due to the exigency of the operation as directed by the FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello.

He restated that such shanties had constituted nuisance to the environment, defacing the area and causing traffic congestion.

The Director emphasized that the situation also constituted security risks as residents were often attacked at night because such structures were major hideouts for hoodlums and criminals.

His words: “It was a major clean up as shops, shanties, and other illegal structures were all removed along the road corridors”.

“The exercise will be a continuous one as efforts will be sustained to ensure that the entire Federal Capital City aligns with its original Master Plan”, he added.
