Provide Modern Equipment for Emergency Agencies: FEMA Boss Tasks Governments

The Director-General, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Emergency Management Agency, (FEMA), Alhaji Abbas Idriss, has urged governments at all levels to provide modern equipments that will assist Emergency Agencies in carrying out emergency duties.
The equipments required during the period of emergency include extricators to enhance effective and prompt emergency response.
The Director-General made this appeal, Monday in Abuja at a training organized by the National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA) for staff of FEMA on the use of the recently acquired modern extricators.
The Director-General explained that with the incessent road crashes and collapse of buildings, all hands must be on deck to ensure that disasters are mitigated in the most professional and proficient manner.
His words: “The importance of this training cannot be over emphasised and its quite timely that this training is being held within this period when the country witnesses different kinds of disasters due to aggressive climate change, which has also affected the FCT in different ways”.
“The use of these equipments will help us in a long way to be able to save lives and salvage properties”.
The Director-General who was represented at the occasion by the Acting Director Forecasting, Response and Mitigation, Mrs. Florence Wenegieme, noted that FEMA carries out Weekly equipment maintenance to ensure the equipments are always in a ready-to-use shape.
He asked NEMA to release some of the newly acquired equipment to FEMA for safe keeping and judicious use.
