Olarinoye Secures Gold in the Commonwealth Games

Adijat Adenike Olarinoye, Nigeria’s representative at the Women’s 55kg weightlifting event in the on-going Commonwealth Games in Birmingham has won gold.
Olarinoye lifted a combined 203kg during the event and broke two games records in the Snatch category by lifting 90kg and 92kg in 10 minutes.
Then came another medal for Team Nigeria in Weightlifting after Rafiatu Folashade Lawal dominated the Women’s 59kg category to win the Gold medal in this category.
The 2021 African Championships Gold medalist set a new Games record of 206kg.
In the men’s category, Edidiong Umoafia won bronze on 290kg.
He had earlier failed with his first two snatch lifts and was in danger of exiting the competition before he composed himself to lift 130kg.
In Table Tennis, the Nigerian team led by Aruna Quadri edged Malaysia 3-2 in the doubles and singles to advance into the last four.
Nigeria will now face India in Monday’s semi-final.
