U20 FIFA Women’s World Cup; Falconets secure a seat in the semifinals

Nigeria Falconets have booked a place in the semifinals of the U20 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica after they beat Canada 3-1 to finish as winners of Group C.

They will now face The Netherlands which finished second in Group D on, Sunday.

The Christopher Danjuma-led girls came from behind to register the emphatic victory over the Canadians in the early hours of Thursday.

Nigeria went behind after a blunder by goalkeeper Oyono but bounced back with two goals from the penalty spot by Esther Onyenezide before halftime.

A late goal by substitute Chioma Olise off a superb low cross from the left by Imuran wrapped up a third straight victory.

Onyenezide has now netted three goals in the competition.

European champions France finished as Group C runners-up after they beat the Korea Republic 1-0 in the other game.
