Prepare Students For Technological Advancement; FCT Education Secretary Enjoins Teachers

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has enjoined teachers on its employ to prepare students to navigate the era of the technological advancement, globalization and complex social challenges.
The FCT Education Secretary, Dr. Danlami Hayo, made this call during the Annual National Conference and 50th Anniversary celebration of the Home Economics Teachers Association of Nigeria ( HETAN) in Abuja.
The Mandate Secretary taechers must avail themselve the opportunities of training and retraining to keep pace with happenings around the globe.
Hayo, who was reprsented at the ocassion by by Mallam Rilwan Mudi, Deputy Director, at the Department of Quality Assurance urged the Association to exploit ways of equiping its memberswith knowledge and competencies needed to thrive in a modern, interconnected World.
He said that Home Economics Teachers Association of Nigeria (HETAN) has critical role to play in reshaping the subject in tune the with the intend and fabric of our society, which goes beyond management of household but about equiping individuals, especially the young people with essential skills needed to lead healthy, productive and balanced lives.
Hayyo commended the Association for itssteadfastness and dedication to advancing Home Economics Education over the past five decades.
The Mandate Secretary reitettaed that the subject has to remain relevant, dynamic and responsive to the changing needs of the society.
Hayyo commended the Association’s leadership in the FCT for providing the beacon of excellence and with advocacy streams in the promotion of Home Economics at all levels of education.
He assured the Association of the FCT Education Secretariat’s commitment to supporting Home Economics education; recognizing the value of the subject and the impact on families and society in general.
Earlier, in her welcome address, the President, FCT Chapter of the Home Economics Teachers Association of Nigeria (HETAN), Mrs. Rifkatu Lami Yisa, advocated for sustained inclusion of Home Economics as a mandatory subject for Educational entrance across the country.
She explained that the subject is a foundational discipline that prepares students to manage their personal and family lives effectively, thereby contributing to socio – economic development of the country.
Yisa added that Home Economics foster entrepreneurship; urging the Education Authorities to recognize the importance of sustaining it within the curriculum as prerequisite for educational advancement.
