FCT Social Development Secretariat To Improve Services

The Social Development Secretariat (SDS) has concluded plans to revive and improve some of its services in line with the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of the Federal Government.

Accordingly, some of the services the Secretariat intends to upscale will have direct bearing on the lives of the residents across the Territory.

The Mandate Secretary, FCT Social Development
Secretariat, Ibrahim Aminu, made this commitment
during a one-day retreat organized for the top Management Staff of the Secretariat in Abuja.

The Mandate Secretary emphasized that the Secretariat must be repositioned to provide socially
inclined services to the residents in consonance with its mandate.

According to him, the Secretariat must work towards reviving its services to meet its expected demand.

Aminu explained that the retreat, which was tagged “Accelerating Social Impact:
Aligning Strategies, Energizing Teams, and Driving Results
for 2025″ has brought together all the Heads of the various
Departments, Units and Directorate
staff of the Secretariat together in order to set the pace for better service delivery by the Secretariat in
the year 2025.

The Mandate Secretary underscored the importance
of the retreat as a panacea for accelerating the provision of Social
impact and deliverables by the FCT Administration through the Social Development Secretariat.

He stressed that various departments have the responsibility of ensuring that they formulate,
plan and strategize by aligning with the vision of the FCT
Administration and better facilitate the fulfillment Secretariat’s
mandate as a service provider to the residents of the FCT.

Aminu noted that the Retreat provides a platform for the
participants to assess their performance in the previous years
and to also share ideas on best practice, which will enhance the output
and impact of the various Departments and Units in the present
year.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat, Ms. Olowookere Olubunmi, expressed the need for the Secretariat to leverage emerging trends and opportunities in the social sector as well as innovation and technology in the conduct of the Secretariat’s business within the year.

Olubunmi encouraged all
staff to maintain strong relationship and cooperation in their interactions and be accountable in their conduct.

The Director of Administration, SDS, Dr. Shindali Nasiru, who also spoke at the occasion, hinted on the novel initiative introduced by the Permanent Secretary;
noting that his Department which is the engine room of the
Secretariat will henceforth ensure that a robust synergy is built
among the Secretariat’s Departments & core Units to ensure a
better, effective and robust service delivery.

The Ag. Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Ms.
Aina Modupe, also encouraged the management team to adhere to the
reporting template designed and provided by her Department to
ease collation of relevant data and key performance index from all Departments & Units.

The Directors of Departments of Arts and Culture, Tourism, Social
Welfare as well as the Heads of units such as Procurement, Legal,
Revenue, Media/Public Relations, Budget, Audit, HIV, Servicom
and Protocol were all at the event and presented their Action Plans of year.
