The Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), through its Department of Development Control, has commenced debris evacuation following the partial collapse of a residential building at Plot 496, Cadastral Zone A08, Wuse 2 District, Abuja.
This was contained in a press release signed by the Information Unit of AMMC.
The Department said the evacuation was part of efforts to ensure safety at the affected site and facilitate further assessment of the building which collapsed on Saturday afternoon, with no casualties recorded.
It added that a consultant had been engaged to conduct an integrity test to establish the possible cause of the collapse, assess the stability of the remaining structure and provide professional recommendations on the next line of action.
According to the Department, further steps will be guided by the outcome of the ongoing technical assessment and recommendations from the professionals involved.
The Department reassured residents that it was addressing the situation, emphasising its commitment to promoting building safety, enforcing compliance with approved building regulations, and protecting lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Abuja Digest reports that the Department also reiterated its resolve to ensure that buildings within the FCT comply with relevant safety standards to minimise the risk of structural failures.
