The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has proposed greater collaboration with Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Abuja to enhance disaster management and response in the FCT.
The Director of FEMD, Engr. Muhammad Dikko, stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to NTA Abuja on Tuesday, 20th October, 2026.
Dikko explained that emergency management goes beyond rescue operations and the provision of relief materials.
“Public enlightenment and early warning dissemination enhance disaster risk reduction,” he said.
He called for greater collaboration in the areas of public enlightenment, regular television programmes, and public service announcements on flood safety, fire prevention, building safety, and general disaster preparedness.
Responding, the General Manager of NTA Abuja, Hajia Talatu Lawan, pledged to sustain the existing collaboration between the two agencies.
“Our collaboration will continue. As long as you brief us on time, we will be there. What you do concerns all of us,” she said.
Abuja Digest reports that the visit was attended by management staff of both agencies, who discussed ways to strengthen their partnership and improve public awareness and preparedness for emergencies across the FCT.
