FCT DEVELOPMENT: TINUBU’S ADMINISTRATION HAS SURPASSED ALL OTHERS IN THE FCT

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), HE Nyesom Wike, has declared that the performance of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the nation’s capital remains unmatched since the creation of the Territory
Wike made this declaration while speaking as a guest during a live television programme on TVC on Monday, 21st September, 2026, in Abuja.
He highlighted transformative infrastructure projects, fiscal independence and decisive leadership as key factors driving a shift in the FCT’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing concerns regarding the outcome of the 2023 presidential election in the Territory, Wike emphasized that tangibles in governance, namely roads, healthcare, education, and community development, are changing the perception of residents across the FCT and its satellite towns.
His words: ”The people of the FCT really have never felt the impact of governance,
“Governance is… look at the road here. Governance is… look at education. Governance is… look at the health sector. Governance is, look, see who is benefiting at the end of the day.
“Asiwaju came, and he said, ‘Look, what is the problem in FCT? What has impeded their development? What has made the satellite towns not to feel the impact of government? I’m going to make sure those obstacles are no longer there.’
“And he did it. He showed that it’s easy to let the people have the impact of governance, for the first time in the history of FCT,” Wike noted.
A critical catalyst for this accelerated development, according to the Minister, was the President’s bold policy decision to exit the Federal Capital Territory Administration from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) framework.
Wike stressed that the move granted the FCT financial autonomy to collaborate with commercial financial institutions and secure funding for crucial capital projects.
”Leaving the Single Treasury Account made us independent, to be able to access commercial banks to get money to carry out infrastructure,” the Minister explained.
“Today, that’s what that administration, that’s what leadership of Asiwaju has been able to do. How many Presidents took that initiative? How many?”, he queried.
Outlining the scale of ongoing and completed work, the minister contrasted the current administration’s record with previous ones, noting that several long-abandoned infrastructure contracts are nearing completion, including the long-awaited Apo-Karshi road project.
”Under Buhari, I remember vividly, we inherited 23, 25 projects; we have completed 23 projects,” Wike said. “And under my administration, we have awarded 107; we have completed 30-something. And as I speak to you, from now to January, we would have completed another 20.
“Take, for example, Apo-Karshi was awarded in 2010. Today, it’s 16 years ago. Everybody has been crying ‘Apo-Karshi, Apo-Karshi.’ And I’m speaking to you now, by November this year, under Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, that project will be handed over to everybody within that environment.”
He challenged critics and political rivals to evaluate the administration purely on visible milestones rather than sentiment, pointing to key visual transformations at the Abuja City Gate and ongoing works in Life Camp as evidence of direct intervention.
”I challenge anybody in this country, as far as this administration is concerned in FCT, to say that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not surpassed any administration put together since the establishment or creation of FCT,” Wike asserted.
“You don’t need to like me. You don’t need to like Bola Ahmed Tinubu. All you should say is there anything going on different from what you used to know? The answer is yes! Yes! Yes!”, he affirmed.
The Minister added that the current rate of project execution and improved ease of doing business, including a drastic increase in the processing and issuance of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O), will serve as the primary endorsement for the administration moving forward.
