In a historic event that paid tribute to the school’s enduring legacy of excellence, Government Secondary School (GSS), Bwari, under the FCT Secondary Education Board, marked its 45th anniversary with week of colourful activities, bringing together past and present staff, alumni, students, and well-wishers.

In her anniversary welcome address, the Director/Principal of the prestigious school, Mrs. Nkoli Okedo, described the 45th anniversary as a milestone and a celebration of the school’s enduring legacy of excellence, discipline, and character development since its establishment.

She noted that the institution has grown into a citadel of learning, consistently producing generations of outstanding students who have made meaningful contributions to society.

The Director/Principal commended the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for the ongoing massive renovation in the school, acknowledging his various visible efforts in every sector in the Territory. She assured that the School will maintain the facilities while also expressing appreciation to the Education Management led by Dr. Danlami Hayyo for his commitment to the advancement of education in the FCT.

She thanked key stakeholders, including alumni, staff, parents, and partners, for their sustained support and contributions to the growth of the school. urging the students to remain focused and uphold the institution’s values, she called  for continued collaboration towards critical developmental projects such as the provision of a school bus, smart boards, and a functional e-library to enhance teaching and learning.

Okedo reaffirmed the commitment of the school to continue building on its legacy for future generations.

Other speakers at the event commended the foresight of the founding fathers and acknowledged the roles played by past administrators in laying a solid foundation for the school. They noted that GSS Bwari has, over the years, distinguished itself in academics, character formation, and extracurricular activities, and also appreciated the Director/Principal for recognising their services after many years.

Students actively participated in the celebration through cultural and calisthenics displays, drama presentations, exhibitions of entrepreneurial projects, and musical performances, adding colour and vibrancy to the occasion.

Alumni of the school, drawn from different parts of the country, expressed pride in being associated with the institution and pledged continued support towards its development.

The highlight of the colourful celebration was the honouring of past officers, including former principals, vice principals, and senior staff, who were recognised for their dedication and valuable contributions to the school’s progress.

 Other highlights included the unveiling of the school magazine and the cutting of the anniversary cake.

The week-long celebration, held within the school premises, commenced with a thanksgiving service, followed by community medical outreach, visits to charitable homes, an anniversary lecture/symposium, interactive alumni mentorship sessions, quiz competitions, a football match, and the launch of an Alumni Support Initiative.

 The grand finale featured awards presentations and attracted dignitaries including officials of the FCT Secondary Education Board led by the Director/Secretary, Hajia Fatima Baba Gambo; Director, School Services, UBEB, Mr. Victor Orifah; and other stakeholders from various walks of life.
