The Minister of state for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has said that the construction of the second runway of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport needs a quick completion to aid smooth operation of the Airport.

Mahmoud, stated this during her remarks in a meeting between the Ministers of Aviation, Festus Kayemo, Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, traditional rulers and other stakeholders, Tuesday, in Abuja.

The Minister said the completion of this project will also put Abuja in a vantage position as it concerned infrastructural development.

Dr. Mahmoud urged the host community, Jiwa, in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), to provide the enabling environment for the successful take off of the project.

Her words: “The second Airport runway was a critical project that needs the support of everyone, especially the host community for successful work. I, therefore, wish to appeal to all the parties involved to take all the issues involved more seriously.”

Dr. Mahmoud said the project was going to promote infrastructure development within and outside the area as well as make the people gain from the project.

It will be recalled that the Second Airport runway project was awarded in April, 2022 to be delivered in July, 2023, but it had been stalled due to inability of the parties involved to agree on certain issues.

Mahmoud pleaded with the affected communities to understand with the relevant parties and give them their full support for easy completion of the project.
