FCT RUWASSA HOLDS HYGIENE SENSITIZATION CAMPAIGN IN KETTI COMMUNITY, AMAC

The Federal Capital Territory Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (FCT RUWASSA) has conducted a hygiene sensitization campaign in Ketti Community, located in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
The initiative was aimed at promoting improved Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) practices, with a strong focus on sustaining the community’s Open Defecation Free (ODF) status.
Speaking at the event, the Head of the Department of Sanitation, Chinyere Arayi who also serves as Head of the Community Sanitation Unit, stressed the importance of good hygiene practices and active community participation in maintaini encouraged residents to adopt proper sanitation habits to help prevent disease outbreaks and improve their overall well-being.
In his welcome remarks, the District Head of Ketti, Chief Alex Akata, expressed appreciation to FCT RUWASSA for bringing the sensitization exercise to the community. He noted that the programme would greatly help in educating residents on the importance of sanitation and hygiene.
During an interactive session, women in the community raised concerns about the lack of essential WASH facilities. They identified the urgent need for a functional borehole, an effective waste management system, and access to proper toilet facilities. According to them, these challenges continue to affect their daily lives and the health of their families.
The campaign focused on creating awareness about proper hygiene practices, safe water use, environmental cleanliness, and the importance of collective efforts in maintaining the community’s ODF status.
FCT RUWASSA reaffirmed its commitment to improving water supply, sanitation, and hygiene services in rural communities across the FCT, while encouraging residents to take ownership of sanitation facilities to ensure long-term sustainability.
