The Federal Capital Territory Administration today, foiled an alleged attempted suicide by one Shuaibu Alhaji Yushua, at the foot of Katampe Hill, Katampe District, in the Phase II of the Federal Capital City, Abuja.

Yushau attempted to kill himself by allegedly trying to jump from a 120 meters mast at the top of Katampe Hill, at the premises of Abuja Broadcasting Company owners of Aso Radio and Television Services.

Accordingly, the 24 year old Yushau, who hails from Baga Local Government Area of Borno State left a suicide note detailing reasons for his attempted suicide before climbing the mast.

Thus, in his suicide note, he said that the action was on behalf of his fellow Nigerians who want the Federal Government to return the fuel subsidy, and that the Federal government should declare a state of emergency in Sokoto, Zamfara,Kebbi, Niger, Kaduna and Borno States over terrorist attacks and rising insecurity.

Yushau is also asking the Federal Government to open up the Nation’s borders for importation to tackle food shortages as well as addressing the issue of out of school children.

It took the timely intervention of the officials of the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD), who counselled and appealed to Yushau for about an hour before he decided to shelve his self-immolation.

The Acting Director-General of FEMD, Mrs. Florence Wenegieme, who led the FEMD rescue team urged aggrieved residents/citizens not to take their lives, but to approach social workers that are always at hand in various government Agencies for counselling.

She called for patience; noting that the federal government was taking steps on the issues of insecurity, as well as food security.

The Director-General has promised to write Social Development Secretariat (SDS) to counsel Yushau, who is presently in the custody of the FCT Police Command.
