Localized Thunderstorms, Strong Winds Expected In Parts of FCT Today – FEMD

Federal Capital Territory, Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has said localized thunderstorms are expected over parts of the FCT, Niger, Nasarawa, and Kogi States in the afternoon/evening hours of today.
This was contained in a Press statement released by the Emergency Management Department, Wednesday, in Abuja.

According to the statement, the forecast by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency NiMet, says strong winds may precede the rains in the areas where the thunderstorms are likely to occur.

The Forecast, therefore, appeals to residents to take precautions as they go out today.

Meanwhile, the Acting Director-General of the FCT Emergency Management Department FEMD, Florence Wenegieme, said the Department is taking steps to avert any disaster in the Territory.

According to her, FEMD has noted the early warning and has put its Search and Rescue Team, Local Emergency Management Councils in the six Area Councils, Local Divers, and Critical Stakeholders on alert in the event of any emergency.

The Director-General has, therefore, appealed to residents to always use the 112 toll-free number in the event of an emergency.
