President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned the Collector Road CN2 linking Katampe and Mabushi Districts, describing the project as a major step in the Federal Government’s commitment to infrastructure-driven development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The president commissioned the Collector Road CN2, which stretches from Arterial Road N16 to Arterial Road N20 and includes the Important Local Street (ILS-5), on Friday, June 19, 2026.
President Tinubu, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, said the road is expected to improve connectivity, ease traffic congestion, and stimulate economic activities within the rapidly developing districts.
Adding that the significance of the road extends beyond transportation, he noted that it connects homes, businesses, markets, and communities that previously faced mobility challenges.
The President also said that residents would no longer endure prolonged periods in traffic, dusty conditions during the dry season, or muddy roads during the rainy season.
He further highlighted the installation of solar-powered streetlights along the corridor, stating that improved lighting would enhance security and eliminate criminal hideouts in the area.
The President commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, for his dedication to transforming Abuja into a befitting national capital.
According to him, Wike’s performance has demonstrated his reputation as a results-oriented administrator who prioritises project delivery over excuses. He described the road as tangible evidence that the government can fulfil its promises and bring meaningful development closer to the people.
“When I gave him the assignment to make Abuja a true capital city, I knew his track record. And Barr. Wike, you have not disappointed Nigerians. From water projects to judicial quarters, you did not give excuses; you delivered results. The people of the FCT call you Mr Project for a reason. Well done! Indeed, this road is a testimony to the Renewed Hope Agenda. Nigeria is working again.”
Earlier, FCT Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike described infrastructure as the backbone of development, stressing that no nation or community can achieve sustainable growth without adequate road networks and essential public facilities.
He explained that the CN2 road project was conceived after the administration observed a gap in connectivity despite the construction of adjoining roads within the district.
According to him, the project was necessary to complete the transportation network and unlock the area’s development potential.
Wike noted that the road has already attracted significant private sector investment and building activities within Katampe, thus demonstrating the direct relationship between infrastructure provision and economic growth.
He said ongoing construction activities across the FCT reflect the administration’s commitment to creating jobs, stimulating economic activities, and improving the quality of life for residents. The minister expressed confidence that before the end of President Tinubu’s first term, Abuja would witness even greater transformation.
Barr. Wike also highlighted recent interventions in underserved communities, including the commissioning of access roads in Tunga Madaki and ongoing efforts to provide potable water to satellite towns. He praised President Tinubu for ensuring that no area council is left behind in the administration’s development agenda and reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s commitment to extending infrastructure and basic services to rural and urban communities alike.
While thanking the National Assembly for its support, Wike specifically commended the Chairman of the House Committee on the FCT, Hon. Mukhtar Betara for fostering cooperation. He said the committee’s constructive engagement has helped accelerate project implementation and budget approvals, thereby supporting the administration’s development objectives.
In her remarks, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the commissioning as another significant milestone in the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s capital city. She expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima for their visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to infrastructure development, noting that projects such as the CN2 road create opportunities, improve mobility, and enhance economic prosperity for residents.
Providing an overview of the project, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, disclosed that the contract for the construction of Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel Ogala Boulevard) and ILS-5 in Katampe District was awarded to CGC Nigeria Limited in November 2025 as part of the FCT Administration’s infrastructure expansion programme.
He explained that the road links Arterial Road N16 (Yemi Osibanjo Way) with Arterial Road N20 (Wole Soyinka Way), thereby strengthening connectivity within the Federal Capital City.
Dauda stated that the project comprises approximately 3.9 kilometres of roads, including a six-lane dual carriageway for the Collector Road CN2 and a four-lane Important Local Street. He added that the scope included underground stormwater drainage systems, water distribution pipelines, sewage networks, telecommunications ducts, solar street lighting, walkways, and landscaped green areas.
