FCT EDUCATION SECRETARIAT CONDUCTS SCIENCE PLACEMENT EXAMINATION FOR ADMISSION INTO SCIENCE AND TECHNICAL SCHOOLS

The FCTA Education Resource Centre (ERC) has successfully conducted the Science Placement Examination for prospective students seeking admission into Science and Technical Schools in the Federal Capital Territory.

The examination, which was conducted at designated centres across the Territory, is part of the FCT Administration’s efforts to provide qualified students with opportunities to pursue science and technical education and develop the knowledge and skills required for future academic and professional pursuits.

Speaking during the monitoring of the examination, the Director, Education Resource Centre, Dr. Neemat Daud Abdulrahim, said the exercise was conducted in an orderly and well-coordinated manner, with the Centre putting in place appropriate arrangements to ensure the smooth administration and effective monitoring of the examination.

She explained that the Centre had strengthened its examination management and monitoring processes to ensure that candidates were provided with suitable examination environments and that the exercise was conducted in accordance with established guidelines.

Dr. Abdulrahim also acknowledged the positive impact of the ongoing renovation and improvement of public school facilities by the Hon. Minister, FCT, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwa Wike CON on the conduct of examinations.

She noted that the renovation of school halls in some public schools had provided larger and more conducive spaces for examinations, making it possible for the Centre to consolidate examination centres and reduce the number of schools required for the exercise compared with previous years.

“Previously, examinations were conducted in more than 16 school centres, which made monitoring more demanding, as our teams had to move from one school to another across different locations. With the improvement of school halls, we are now able to utilise fewer centres with appropriate and conducive spaces for candidates. This has made the monitoring exercise more coordinated and efficient,” she said.

The Director commended the FCT Administration for the improvements in school infrastructure, noting that conducive learning and examination environments are important to the effective implementation of educational programmes.

She, however, emphasised that the success of any examination exercise also depends on effective planning, coordination, supervision and the commitment of examination officials, school authorities and other stakeholders.

Dr. Abdulrahim also appealed to parents and guardians who gathered around the examination centres to exercise patience and remain security-conscious while waiting for their wards.

She assured them that adequate arrangements had been put in place for the safety and orderly conduct of the examination and urged them to cooperate with officials at the examination centres.

Some of the candidates expressed excitement about participating in the examination, describing it as an important step towards pursuing their academic interests in the sciences and related disciplines.

The candidates noted that admission into the Science and Technical Schools would provide them with a strong foundation for future studies and careers in fields such as Medicine, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, Engineering and other science-related disciplines.

A total of 3,625 candidates registered for the placement examination for admission into the six Science and Technical Schools in the FCT, namely: Government Science and Technical College, Area 3 Garki;

 Government Science Secondary School, Maitama;

Government Science Secondary School, Abaji

 Government Girls Science Secondary School, Kuje;

 Government Science and Technical College, Kwali; and

 Government Science Secondary School, Bwari.

The Education Resource Centre reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening examination administration, monitoring and assessment processes to ensure credible, transparent and efficient examinations across the Federal Capital Territory.
