The FCT Education Secretariat, in collaboration with the Abuja Mega Lions Club, has commissioned an upgraded Digital Library at the Abuja City Library, Wuse Zone-4.
The upgrade, which resulted from a partnership between the government and the service organisation, covered renovation works, provision of electronic resources, a one-year internet subscription and installation of bookshelves, all designed to create a more functional and technology-driven learning environment for residents of the FCT.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the FCT Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr Danlami Hayyo, described the project as a significant milestone in the collective effort to improve access to quality education and knowledge resources in FCT, while noting that the library will enhance reading and research among residents and students in FCT.
He commended the Abuja Mega Lions Club District, led by Dr Charles Bassey, for the intervention, noting that the initiative reflects a strong commitment to education and community development.
Dr. Hayyo further linked the project to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes human capital development, digital inclusion, youth empowerment, and expanded access to quality education.
He also noted that the upgrade complements the broader efforts of the FCT Administration, under the honourable Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike and Minister of State Dr Mariya Mahmoud, to create an enabling environment for learning across the territory.
Representing the District Governor of Lions International, Lion pastor Ezeikel Umoh, his Vice, praised the Secretariat for expediting the approval and implementation processes that enabled the project’s timely delivery. He described the seamless collaboration between the Lions Club and the FCT Education Secretariat as an example of what government institutions and service organisations can achieve when they work together toward a common goal of advancing education and community development.
In her remarks, FCT Education Resource Centre Director Dr. Neemat Daud Abdulrahim expressed appreciation to all stakeholders whose contributions brought the project to fruition. She described the Digital Library as far more than the provision of technology, noting that it serves as a gateway to knowledge, innovation, research, and lifelong learning.
According to her, the facility aligns squarely with the FCT Administration’s vision of building a modern, inclusive, and technology-driven education system capable of meeting the demands of the 21st century.
Dr. Abdulrahim also reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to sustaining the partnership and maximising the opportunities the facility offers to learners, researchers, educators, and the general public.
The upgraded Digital Library is now open and expected to provide users with improved access to digital educational resources, online learning tools, and research materials.
