The Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Chief Felix Amaechi Obuah, has called on civil servants to demonstrate greater commitment and dedication to duty in order to improve service delivery across the public sector.
Chief Obuah made the call during a farewell ceremony organised in honour of the outgoing Director of Administration of AMMC, Mr. Buhari Wasiu, in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, the Coordinator praised the retiring director for his exemplary service and contribution to the growth of the Council.
He recalled that when he assumed office as Coordinator, some individuals advised him to redeploy all the directors, alleging that they were responsible for the challenges facing the Council.
“I told them I came to solve the problem. From that moment until now, I am still looking for the problem,” Obuah said, noting that the directors had continued to demonstrate professionalism and dedication in the discharge of their duties.
He described Mr. Buhari as an accomplished administrator who had mentored and groomed numerous staff members, many of whom are expected to rise to leadership positions in the service in the near future.
According to him, the retiring director remains a valuable asset whose wealth of experience and expertise will continue to benefit the Council even after his retirement.
“Nobody abandons a good product, and Buhari is a good product. I will continue to work with him,” he stated.
In separate goodwill messages, the Director of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Mr. Ilyasu Bello, described the celebrant as a people-oriented administrator whose positive impact on the lives and careers of many staff members would continue to endure.
Similarly, the Deputy Director in the Department of Development Control, Town Planner Hope Thompson, described Mr. Buhari as a focused, persistent, and dedicated officer whose legacy of hard work and commitment would remain a source of inspiration to others.
In his remarks, Mr. Buhari expressed gratitude to God for a successful career in the Federal Civil Service and for attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60 years in good health.
He advised civil servants to remain committed to their duties, loyal to their superiors, and sincere in their service to the nation, stressing that such virtues are essential for professional success and national development.
Mr. Buhari joined the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) more than three decades ago and served in several departments and agencies, including the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), the FCT Water Board, and the Transport Secretariat.
He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Public Administration from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Imo State University, Owerri.
Throughout his career, he participated in several professional development programmes, including a certificate course on Light Rail Programmes in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Mr. Buhari is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Human Resources and Strategic Management.
