FCT HEAD OF SERVICE COMMENDS DR. BABA GANA ADAM AT RETIREMENT CEREMONY

The Head of Service, Federal Capital Territory Administration, (FCTA) Mrs. Nancy Sabanthi Nathan, has commended the retiring pioneer Permanent Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), Dr. Baba Gana Adam, for his remarkable contributions to public service and administrative excellence.

Mrs. Nathan gave the commendation during a retirement ceremony held in Abuja in honour of Dr. Adam, who exited active service after attaining the statutory 35 years in the civil service on Wednesday, 22nd April, 2026.

Describing the occasion as a rare and deserving honour, the Head of Service said Dr. Adam distinguished himself throughout his career as a disciplined, principled, and result-oriented administrator whose dedication to duty earned him widespread respect.

She recalled that their professional relationship began in 2007 when they both served on a committee established to develop strategies for the Federal Capital Territory Economic Empowerment and Development agenda.

According to her, Dr. Adam consistently stood out for his professionalism, constructive ideas, and commitment to institutional reforms. She particularly highlighted his role in pioneering paperless operations in the Economic Planning and Revenue Generation Department, noting that the initiative improved efficiency in service delivery.

Mrs. Nathan stated that Dr. Adam’s appointment as Permanent Secretary was based on merit, competence, and a strong record of service across several departments of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

Also speaking, the Mandate Secretary of HSES, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, described the retiree as a committed and dependable officer whose disciplined style of leadership was focused on achieving positive results.

She said Dr. Adam was always willing to provide support during challenging periods and remained dedicated to ensuring smooth operations within the Secretariat.

She appreciated his immense contributions and wished him success in his future endeavours.

In a goodwill message on behalf of the FCT Body of Permanent Secretaries, the Permanent Secretary, Social Development Secretariat, Mrs. Olubunmi Olowokere, described Dr. Adam as a versatile administrator who excelled in different responsibilities beyond his professional background.

She added that he mentored many officers through his wealth of experience and remained a source of guidance to colleagues across the service.

Representing the Forum of FCT Hospitals Medical Directors, the Medical Director of Maitama District Hospital, Dr. Rita Idemudia, described Dr. Adam as a trailblazer whose tenure as pioneer Permanent Secretary of HSES brought notable progress to the health sector in the FCT.

Earlier, the citation of the retiree, read by the Director of Legal Drafting in the FCT Legal Secretariat, Barrister Ismaila Ahmed, stated that Dr. Adam joined the FCTA in 2002 through transfer of service from Borno State Government and served in several agencies, including Parks and Recreation, Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), Economic Planning, Research and Statistics, and the Department of Outdoor Advertising and Signage (DOAS), where he served as Director before his appointment as Permanent Secretary.

In his remarks, Dr. Adam expressed gratitude to the FCTA management for the recognition and kind words extended to him at retirement.

He thanked the Head of Service, the Mandate Secretary, colleagues, and members of his family for their support throughout his career, noting that their encouragement contributed greatly to his successful years in service.

The event attracted senior government officials, family members, friends, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate his legacy of service and excellence.
