FCT RUWASSA WELCOMES A NEW DIRECTOR

The Federal Capital Territory Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Directorate (FCT RUWASSA) has welcomed a new Director, Dr. (Mrs.) Joyce Chinyere Echoke, following a formal handover ceremony held at the Directorate.
Dr. Echoke, who was deployed from the FCT Water Board, officially took over the leadership of the Directorate from its Acting Director, Ms. Patricia Abigail Ekpenisi.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Ms. Patricia Abigail Ekpenisi expressed her gratitude to the management and staff of FCT RUWASSA for their unwavering support and co-operation throughout her tenure as Acting Director. She encouraged staff to accord the new Director the same level of commitment and dedication to enable the Directorate to continue delivering on its mandate.
Ms. Ekpenisi served as Acting Director from 23rd July 2025, during which she provided strategic leadership for the implementation of key water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programmes across the Federal Capital Territory.
In her acceptance remarks, Dr. (Mrs.) Joyce Chinyere Echoke thanked the FCT Administration for the confidence reposed in her and pledged to build on the achievements of the Directorate.
She called on the staff of the Directorate to embrace teamwork, professionalism, innovation, and accountability in advancing the Directorate’s objectives.
She reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening collaboration with development partners, Area Councils, communities, and other stakeholders to expand access to safe water, improved sanitation, and hygiene services throughout the FCT.
FCT RUWASSA is mandated to ensure the sustainable provision of and access to potable water, hygiene, and sanitation facilities and services for rural and peri-urban communities in the Federal Capital Territory.
The Directorate remains committed to improving public health, promoting hygiene, and supporting the achievement of an Open Defecation Free (ODF) FCT through sustainable WASH interventions.
The Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors, and other management staff of FCT RUWASSA witnessed the event.
