FCTA AND POLICE COLLABORATION ON VANDALISM YIELDS RESULTS

In a move to combat rising vandalism in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the FCT Police Command, in collaboration with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has apprehended a group of individuals recently involved in vandalizing public infrastructure.
Speaking during a press briefing in the Command’s Headquarters, the FCT Police Commissioner, Ahmed Mohamed Sanusi, listed series of items that had been vandalized within the city, and the suspects apprehended. He emphasized the adverse effects of these crimes perpetrated in the FCT.
Several suspects were presented, with Commissioner Mohammed highlighting their involvement in the vandalism of public infrastructure and assured that the suspects will face immediate legal action.
The Commissioner reiterated the role of public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities. He urged the general public to remain vigilant and to report any incident directly to the police, highlighting the Command’s readiness to curtail the menace of vandalism in FCT.
Items recovered were displayed during the briefing and include Streetlights, Grills, Manhole Covers, Armored Cables, Fake Number plates, among others.
To ensure public safety, especially motorists, the Department of Facilities Maintenance and Management (FMM) of the FCTA immediately reinstalled some of the Manhole Covers along Independent Avenue.
Speaking during the reinstallation, the Director of Facilities Maintenance and Management (FMM), Engr. Ayuba Usman, on behalf of Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), appreciated the FCT Police Command for the collaborative effort in combating the menace of vandalism of public infrastructure. He said this effort has yielded positive results through the apprehension of some vandals and recovery of vandalized items.
He added that over the past three years, the Administration has introduced a specialized welding mechanism for Manhole Covers so that they cannot be easily removed.
He highlighted the Administration’s effort in providing world-class infrastructure in FCT in line with Mr President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He encouraged the public to remain vigilant and assist the Administration and law enforcement agencies in reporting anyone seen vandalizing public infrastructure, which is the civil responsibility of all citizens.
