FCTA TO TURN ABANDONED LIFE CAMP RECREATION ROUNDABOUT INTO WORLD-CLASS PARK AS WIKE ORDERS EMERGENCY WORK

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has directed the immediate transformation of the abandoned Life Camp Recreation Center into a modern, world-class leisure facility for Abuja residents.
Speaking during an on-the-spot inspection of the facility at the Life Camp Recreation Roundabout on 3rd August, 2026, the Minister expressed displeasure over years of neglect by past administrations, describing the neglected site as a missed opportunity for urban renewal and public recreation.
Wike disclosed that the success of the recently commissioned City Gate green initiative, which earned the FCT Administration international recognition and has drawn crowds day and night, inspired the drive to replicate similar green and recreational infrastructure across satellite districts.
To fast-track the project, the Minister announced that he has directed the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Richard Dauda, to immediately engage the reputable construction firm Julius Berger (Nig) PLC alongside alternative developers to present competitive, top-tier design proposals.
He stressed that the rehabilitation would bypass standard administrative delays and be treated as an emergency project, with actual construction expected to begin within two months.
According to him, the upgraded center will feature modern sports amenities, green relaxation parks, and family leisure spaces to cater to residents of Life Camp and surrounding areas.
Highlighting broader urban initiatives, Wike revealed plans by the FCT Administration to introduce official New Year countdown celebrations and fireworks displays at the Abuja City Gate, aligning the nation’s capital with international urban festivities.
The Minister also reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to improving the quality of life for residents through public infrastructure, environmental greening, and the restoration of key public spaces in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
