The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has called off the search operation for possible victims in the rubble of the collapsed three-storey structure behind the Gudu market.

The Acting Director General of FEMD, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed announced the end of the rescue operations.

According to him, having reached ground zero, no victims were found beneath the rubble.

Rescue efforts at the incident scene continued at 7 am, and the search was called off at 8.30 am on Sunday, 17th May, 2026.

Engr. Abdulrahman commended Julius Berger Nigeria and Zeberced for their contributions to the rescue operations.

The Secretary of the Health and Environment Secretariat, Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, National Emergency Management Agency, Nigerian Army, FCT Police Command, FCT Fire Service, Federal Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corp, and other stakeholders participated in the rescue operations.

Recall that a 3-storey building under construction behind the Gudu market collapsed yesterday, injuring 12 persons and claiming five lives.
