How We Identified and Removed Flood Infractions – FEMA DG

The Director-General, FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Alhaji Abbas Idriss has revealed that the agency has identified the causes of flooding in the FCT and consequently removed all infractions particularly human-induced.

Stating some of the measures implemented to remove infractions, DG FEMA emphasized that buildings on flood plains have been demolished hence the reduction in disastrous floods amidst the heavy downpour.

He attributed reduced flooding to the Agency’s hard work and added that technical measures have been implemented to further reduce flooding in the FCT.

“We have sanity in spite of the heavy rainfall some days ago, this is the result of teamwork and we will continue to do what is necessary”, he stated.

Speaking on the challenges to enhancing quality performance, Alhaji Idriss reiterated the need for the public to adhere to warnings against building in flood-prone areas and to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse on waterways.

While reiterating the agency’s commitment to ensure a safe environment for residents, He however said the Administration through the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has initiated necessary actions to avoid further disasters, especially in this season.
