NIGERIA SHINE WITH SIX MEDALS AT AFRICAN ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Nigeria produced an impressive performance on Day Two of the 2026 African Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana, after winning six medals across track and field events on Wednesday.

The star of the day was Tobi Amusan, who won gold in the women’s 100 metres hurdles. The world record holder finished strongly in 12.83 seconds and successfully defended her African title for the third straight time.

Nigeria also celebrated another podium finish in the same event as Adaobi Tabugbo claimed bronze with a time of 13.26 seconds.

The country continued its medal chase in the 100 metres races as Rosemary Chukwuma won silver in the women’s final behind Cameroon’s Hervé Kole Etame.

In the men’s race, Chidera Ezeakor secured bronze, while Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme raced to gold and South Africa’s Bradley Nkoana finished second.

Nigeria ended the day on a high note after winning gold in the mixed 4×400 metres relay. The team of Ezekiel Asuquo, Toheebat Jimoh, Victor Sampson, and Patience Okon-George combined brilliantly to finish in 3:16.41.

Botswana settled for silver in 3:17.88 while Kenya took bronze in 3:17.94.

Nigeria also found success in the field events as Sade Olatoye won silver in the women’s hammer throw with a best mark of 69.60 metres.
