President Bola Tinubu has announced the award of a contract for the construction of the Kaba–Kagini–Zaudna Road while commissioning the newly completed 15-kilometre Old Keffi Road linking Kado Village to Dei-Dei Junction on the Outer Northern Expressway.
The announcement came on the 17th day of the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s ongoing 31-day commissioning of completed projects, drawing loud applause from residents and stakeholders gathered for the event in Dei-Dei.
Represented by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu called on Nigerians to remain united in pursuit of national development, stressing that sustainable progress can only be achieved through collective effort.
He described the Kado–Dei-Dei Road as a symbol of his administration’s commitment to delivering tangible infrastructure rather than empty promises, declaring that the era of abandoned projects in the Federal Capital Territory is over.
According to the President, the rehabilitated road—complete with asphalt pavement, street lighting and modern drainage—will significantly improve the lives of residents, traders and commuters.
He noted that the project, approved by the Federal Executive Council and executed by Lubrik Construction Company Limited, addresses the transportation challenges faced by communities including Kado, Saburi, Gwagwa, Karmo, Idu and Dei-Dei by reducing travel time, lowering transportation costs and stimulating economic activities.
President Tinubu commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, describing him as “Mr. Projects” for delivering visible infrastructure across the nation’s capital. He also praised the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, and the entire FCTA team for ensuring the timely and quality delivery of projects.
He urged residents to protect public infrastructure from vandalism and misuse, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, improved security and enhanced quality of life for all Nigerians.
Earlier, the FCT Minister explained that the Kado–Dei-Dei Road project was initiated following direct engagement with community stakeholders shortly after he assumed office.
“When Mr. President appointed us as ministers, one of our first assignments was to meet with stakeholders across the FCT,” Wike said. “At the time, the priority presented to us was the Saburi Road. That project was awarded in 2024, completed and commissioned the same year.”
He recalled that during subsequent engagements, residents and traders consistently appealed for the rehabilitation of the Old Keffi Road, popularly known as the Dei-Dei Market Road, because of its importance to commercial activities in the area.
“The massive turnout today shows how important this road is to the people who live and do business here,” he said.
Wike also recounted that during the Area Council election campaigns, traders in the area had urged him to convey their appeal to President Tinubu to ensure the road was completed.
“They told me that if Mr. President completed this road for them, he could go home and sleep peacefully with both eyes closed,” the Minister said, expressing satisfaction that the promise had now been fulfilled.
The Minister also responded to residents from another community who attended the event carrying placards highlighting the deplorable condition of their road.
Acknowledging their concerns, Wike directed the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to instruct Lubrik Construction Company Limited to immediately mobilise to site for the construction of the Kaba–Kagini–Zaudna Road.
He explained that improving road connectivity remains central to the Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in rural communities where better access roads will support farming, commerce and economic growth.
“The essence of the Renewed Hope Agenda is to restore hope where people have lost it,” Wike said. “Once Mr. President is aware of your challenges, especially where road infrastructure will improve connectivity and economic activities, action will be taken. I am confident the people of these communities will not forget this intervention.”
