Sustain NYSC’s Vision; FCT Perm Sec Charges Corps Members

Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), deployed to Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have been enjoined to uphold the vision of the Scheme’s establishment to further unite the country.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Olusade Adesola, gave this charge at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2023 Batch “B” Stream 1 Corps Members, in Kubwa, Abuja.

The Permanent Secretary, who was represented at the occasion by the Acting Secretary/Chairman of NYSC Governing Board, Mrs. Justina Pawa, urged Corps Members not to renege on the established spirit of the scheme.

Adesola reminded Corps Members that, as they come from diverse ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds, the service offers them the rare opportunity to deepen their knowledge about the backgrounds, diverse cultures, food, and language of others, which tends to fortify peace and unity in the nation.

He assured them of adequate security during and even after their orientation exercise as the FCT is on top of the security concerns of all the residents of the Territory including the Corps Members deployed to serve in the rural areas.

Adesola admonished Corps Members to be security conscious of their environment and report promptly to the Camp officials or nearby security personnel, if they notice any form of security threat or breach.

He commended the Director-General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed as well as his team, for the timely mobilization and deployment of critical resources for a seamless take-off of orientation programmes in the FCT and the 36 States of the Federation.

Adesola appreciated the patriotism of the new FCT NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Winifred Shokpeka, and other camp officials in handling the entrants of the deployed Corps Members professionally.

Abuja Digest recalls that the vision of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as conceived by the General Yakubu Gowon military Administration in 1973, was to integrate the people and promote peace and unity across the nation.
