President Bola Tinubu has commissioned the 13-kilometre Gomani-Dafa-Yangoji Road in Kwali Area Council, reiterating commitment to bridging the infrastructure gap between Abuja’s city centre and its satellite towns.

The President, who was represented at the ceremony by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, stated that the project symbolises a firm rejection of a divided capital city. “Abuja cannot be a city of two worlds, with gleaming districts and forgotten settlements. This road rejects that divide.”

He emphasised that development must reach every Nigerian, ensuring that national wealth benefits all, “whether you live on a boulevard or a farm track.”

Highlighting the road’s transformative potential, the President noted that for too long, poor access had stifled rural communities, leading to post-harvest losses and youth migration. “With the opening of this corridor, farmers can move produce faster, buyers can reach farms without delay.

“Kwali can now stand on its own as a food-producing hub for the FCT and beyond,” he said, adding that such infrastructure gives families a reason to stay and build their lives at home.

The President issued a firm declaration: “The era of starting projects only to abandon them is over. We will fund, we will finish, and we will maintain.” He then charged the communities of Gomani, Dafa, and Yangoji to take ownership of the asset. “This road is now yours. Guard it; use it to grow your farms, your businesses, and your children’s future. Government has done its part. The next part belongs to you.”

President Tinubu, again, specifically commended Minister Wike’s leadership. “Honourable Minister… you took my directive seriously: open up the area councils, match city development with rural development… Wike, you have earned us that trust here,” he said

Amid a festive atmosphere with a large turnout from the benefiting communities, the President, formally cut the tape to commission the road for the “prosperity of the people of Kwali, the growth of the Federal Capital Territory, and the greatness of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The FCT Minister, who spoke earlier, revealed that the road was awarded in November 2025 and completed in under twelve months. “This shows that all this work done is not rocket science, it’s commitment by this administration, commitment by the contractors,” Wike stated.

He credited the accelerated pace to President Tinubu’s directive to decentralise development and a novel approach to community participation.

Wike recounted that upon their appointment, they were directed to hold stakeholder meetings in all area councils, a move he described as the first of its kind. “It is the first time, what you may say ‘community participation,’” Wike said, noting that this ensured projects reflected actual community needs.

The Minister also praised the traditional rulers of Kwali for their support, contrasting it with experiences elsewhere where community leaders might prioritise personal gain over project completion. “Here in FCT… their own interest is for the conclusion of the roads, of the projects, that will be of benefit to their people,” he affirmed.

Both the President and the Minister praised o the contractor, Zeberced Limited, for delivering quality work, including durable drainage, bridges, and streetlights -within the stipulated timeline, following their previous successful work on the A2 to Pai road.
