President Bola Tinubu has flagged off the construction of the access road linking Tungan Madaki to the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway at Zuba.

Speaking at the flag off of the project on Monday, 13 July, 2026 in Abuja, the President restated his administration’s unwavering resolve to drive national development by prioritizing impactful, citizen-focused infrastructure.

Represented by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rajudeen Abbas, the President emphasized that the initiative marks the expansion of a vital community route into a broader network designed to drive authentic economic growth and integrate FCT’s gateway communities.

President Tinubu noted that the corridor is populated by industrious farmers, traders, and families who have endured years of severe transit constraints. He stated that poor road access previously isolated communities during rainy seasons, led to post-harvest losses for local farmers, and inflated the baseline cost of doing business.

He stated that the new connection to the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway is expected to cut travel times, lower vehicle maintenance costs, and bridge the gap between rural productivity and urban marketplace opportunities.

According to the President, the infrastructural push is strategically engineered to lower food prices in municipal markets by opening up agricultural lands, encourage local youth enterprise, and accelerate response times for security agencies operating along the axis.

Tinubu further maintained that the structural integration of satellite towns is essential to fulfilling the original master plan of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as a city built to serve all Nigerians, thereby opening up the area for subsequent private investments in housing, education, healthcare, and industry.

President Tinubu lauded the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, and the FCT Administration for their operational discipline and speed in execution. He commended their strict adherence to project timelines and deliberate rejection of abandoned projects.

Addressing the designated contractors, CCECC, the President demanded timely, high-quality delivery alongside the active engagement of local labor, while urging the residents of Tungan Madaki and Zuba to fully cooperate with the construction teams.

In his remarks, the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, disclosed that the necessity of the extension became apparent following consultations with local leadership after the area council elections.

He explained that the newly launched route provides a critical alternative for commuters from Zuba, allowing them to bypass Gwagwalada and travel directly to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and the city center.

Wike explained that the project fulfills the President’s mandate to ensure that all the Area Councils and satellite towns in the FCT receive equitable developmental attention.

The Minister added that the construction firm, CCECC, has been tasked with an accelerated timeline to ensure the road is completed and ready for commissioning by December 2026, describing the project as an impending holiday gift to the host communities.

In her remarks, the FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariyah Mahmoud, stressed that the road would stimulate local commerce, attract strategic investments, and elevate the living standards of residents across the neighbouring settlements.

She credited the ongoing, unprecedented infrastructure transformation across the territory to the visionary framework provided by President Tinubu and the result-oriented leadership of the FCT Minister, Barr, Nyesom Wike.
