VOZINHA MAKES HISTORY AS FIFA NAMES 2026 WORLD CUP BEST XI

Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha has emerged as the biggest surprise in FIFA’s 2026 World Cup Team of the Tournament after becoming the first player from the island nation to earn a place in the competition’s official best XI.

Vozinha’s inclusion comes after a remarkable campaign in which he produced a string of outstanding saves to help Cape Verde make a memorable impression at the tournament hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States.

The goalkeeper’s performances placed him alongside some of the biggest names in world football as FIFA unveiled its 4-3-3 Team of the Tournament following Spain’s triumph.

World champions Spain lead the selection with three players, including defenders Marc Cucurella and Pedro Porro, as well as midfield star Rodri, who once again proved his importance in La Roja’s successful title run.

Argentina, who finished as runners-up, have captain Lionel Messi included in the attack after another influential World Cup showing, while defender Lisandro Martínez also made the team.

France also produced three representatives, with Kylian Mbappé, Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano recognised for their contributions. England midfielder Jude Bellingham was rewarded for another impressive tournament, while Norway striker Erling Haaland earned his place after a prolific goalscoring display.

The selection brings together players from seven different countries and highlights the individual brilliance that shaped the 2026 World Cup.

For African football, Vozinha’s recognition stands out as a major achievement, with the Cape Verde shot stopper sharing the spotlight with some of the world’s most celebrated players after a tournament that raised the profile of the small island nation.
