The Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council, Christopher Zakka Maikalangu has vowed to eliminate all revenue leakages in order to shore up the Council’s Internally Generated Revenue.

Maikalangu, who made this disclosure during a media interview in his office yesterday, said his administration was working towards “Introducing a user-friendly digital software payment solutions (application) to eradicate revenue leakages, replace the mundane and ineffective cash payment system of revenue generation and collection in place”.

The Chairman expressed commitment in reforming the revenue sector of the Council, with a view to eradicating all forms of corrupt practices and sanitising the revenue system for the betterment of all AMAC residents.

He also stated that his administration was determined to improving efficiency and effectiveness in the system and promoting the ease of doing business by removing all identified bottlenecks.

The Chairman also warned that he would not tolerate any form of corruption, especially extortion, harassment and intimidation of taxpayers by revenue collectors in the Council.

Promising business operators a new lease of life as revenue collection would not be business as usual, Maikalangu urged all Nigerians and tax-payers around the capital city to exercise patience with the Council as it continues to make strategic and innovative measures that would promote a more customer-friendly tax payment regime with a humane face.

He berated hitherto unnecessary high-handedness particularly on unsuspecting publics in revenue collection and vowed to stop all illegalities, ineffectiveness and corruption surrounding the entire process.

According to him, the new revenue collection regime would come on board as soon as the committee he constituted to look into revenue and ancillary matters submits its recommendations on the way forward.
