WIKE INSPECTS APO-KARSHI, BWARI-KUBWA ROADS, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO 2026 COMPLETION DEADLINE

Barely a week after the marathon commissioning and flagging off of no fewer than 31 projects across the Territory, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, embarked on an inspection tour of two critical road infrastructure projects in two Area Councils.
Speaking with journalists after the field inspection of the Apo-Karshi road and the Bwari-Kubwa road projects on Monday, 27 July, 2026, Wike assured that the projects would be completed before the end of the year.
The Minister emphasized that the work of the FCT Administration remains continuous, stating that President Bola Tinubu’s first tenure extends until May 29, 2027.
He explained that despite public expectations for a period of rest following the intense project delivery schedule, his team remains fully committed to fulfilling every pledge made to FCT residents.
He expressed delight at the notable progress recorded on the Apo-Karshi road project, an essential artery originally awarded in 2010 that had suffered years of delay with public outcry.
The Minister noted that, owing to sustained support of President Tinubu, substantial groundwork has been covered, adding that the contractor, SCC, is currently installing streetlights along the corridor.
Wike praised the contractor for delivering quality work and commended host communities for their cooperation and peaceful conduct throughout the construction phase.
Inspecting the ongoing works along the Bwari-Kubwa axis (Chikakore road), Wike recalled his earlier pledge to commission the road within the year, reiterating that contractors must meet agreed deadlines without moving goalposts.
Acknowledging that the contractors are navigating a particularly tough terrain, Wike assured them that the FCT Administration will play its part by ensuring the timely release of required funds before the full onset of the dry season.
He further disclosed that inspection tours will continue, with his team set to visit additional project sites flagged off during the previous drive.
This, according to him, is to ensure contractors sustain momentum and meet the target of completing eight to ten major projects designated for handover before January, thereby maintaining the public trust earned by the administration.
Addressing emerging security and safety concerns regarding illegal street racing in residential areas of the FCT, the Minister warned that while motorists may be eager to enjoy the newly constructed, high-quality road network, endangerment of innocent lives will not be tolerated.
The Minister directed the traffic section to take immediate measures to restrict high-speed racing to designated zones away from residential neighborhoods, stressing that individual rights must not compromise public safety.
