No fewer than 4,794 land titles have been revoked in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) over non-payment of ground rent by land allottees.

Senior Special Assistant to FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, made this disclosure during a press briefing in Abuja, Monday.

Lere revealed that a total of 8,375 property owners have not paid their Ground Rent in the last 43 years worth ₦6,967,980,119.13 in the Phase I of Federal Capital City including the Central Business District, Garki I & II, Wuse I & II, Asokoro, Maitama and Guzape.

He stressed that the indebtedness constituted “contravention of the terms and conditions of grant of the Rights of Occupancy, which goes contrary to the provisions of Section 28, Subsections 5(a) and (b) of the Land Use Act.”

He, however, stated that a grace period of 21 days was given to title holders who were in default of ground rent payment for one to ten years, after which, the affected tittles would also be revoked.

The SSA recalled that the FCTA had made numerous publications in national dailies and announcements on broadcast media houses since 2023, calling on defaulters to pay up all outstanding bills and ground rents.
