Sports Development: FCTA Ready to Partner Stakeholders

The FCT Administration has expressed its readiness to partner stakeholders for the development of sports in the nation’s capital.

Director, Sports Development, Social Development Secretariat, FCTA, Lukas Istifanus, stated this on Wednesday, during kick-off of the Adedayo Benjamin-Laniyi FCT football tournament at the FCT Sports Centre, Area 10 Garki, Abuja.

According to him, investing in sports, particularly grassroots sports, would not only reduce crime among the youths, but would also catapult the FCT into a force to be reckoned with in the Nigerian sporting circle.

The Director commended organisers of the tournament for using sporting to engage the youth; saying that sports was a unifying factor, which should be promoted by all, even as he called on the private sector, corporate organizations and individuals to join hands in developing the abundant sporting talents in Abuja.

Istifanus recalled that FCT performance at the last National Sports Festival, where it clinched gold in the football event, was a demonstration of its comparative strength in football, and the need for the FCT Administration and stakeholders to develop the game and use it to project the Territory to the World.

Earlier, organiser of the tournament, Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, said the football championship, which attracted youths from the six Area Councils, was aimed at unifying the youths.

She revealed that some of the youths, who displayed brilliant skills had already been contacted by scouts, who were ready to further develop them into stars.
