Director ERC Calls For Sport Competition Amongst SDA’s

To ensure physical and mental health of staff, the Director, Federal Capital Territory Education Resource Centre (FCT-ERC) has called on the Secretariats, Departments and Agencies (SDA’s) in the FCT Administration embrace sports competition among theworkforce.

The call is primarily aimed at enhancing oneness, peace, unity and inter personal relationships among the staff and all the SDA’s in the FCT Administration to boost productivity and improve Seevice delivery.

Permanent Secretary of Education Secretariat, FCTA, Mrs. Joy Okeke, made the call in an exclusive interview with Abuja Digest, during the FCT-ERC Annual Road Walk Exercise and Presentation of Trophies for the just concluded Inter-House Sports Competition, at 55 Harper Street, off Kigoma street, Zone 7, Wuse I District, Abuja.

Okeke, who said that the FCT Education Resource Centre has set a pace for other SDA’s to emulate, also encouraged competition amongst Secretariat, Departments and Agencies which will further promote Peace and unity among various Agencies of the Administration.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Director of ERC, Dr. Neemat Daud Abdulrahim, who corroborated what the Permanent Secretary said, emphasized on the importance of Sports competition among staff of SDA’s, which she reiterated that apart from numerous health benefits, sport brings about familiarity, oneness, togetherness, peace and unity in every organization or society.

The Director called on the higher authorities of FCT Administration to include inter sports competition for SDA’s in its policies in order to ensure that maximum benefits are properly derived including improvement in service delivery.

She revealed that since her assumption as the Director of the Centre few years ago, she initiated the idea of Inter-House Sports Competition among staff, which has upscaled the level of production, familiarity, oneness, togetherness, peace and unity beyond measure.

Her words: “Today, I am fulfilled by my action of introducing sports activities, which has run for about three years. In fact, I have never regretted even a bit because we have witnessed tremendous benefits of this activities. For instance, we have many units in the Centre and staff working in these units never recognized themselves until this sports programme came into an existence.”

Also speaking at the occasion, the Sports Coordinator of ERC, Mr. Balogun Akeem, commended the brilliant initiation of the Director for organizing such a programme in the Centre.

Akeem reiterated that the implementation of the Sports activities in the Centre by the management marked the beginning of rapid growth in the department in different dimensions; ranging from increase in productivity as a result of fitness and promotion of peace and unity, among others.
