The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), through the Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES) and the Hospitals Management Board (HMB), has received a state-of-the-art High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) Machine from Nordica Fertility Centre as part of activities marking the 2nd Edition of Abuja Reproductive Health Week 2026.
The donation, which was officially handed over at Wuse District Hospital, represents a significant milestone in the advancement of reproductive healthcare services in the Federal Capital Territory and underscores the commitment of the FCTA to improving access to innovative and life-saving healthcare interventions for women.
Receiving the equipment on behalf of the FCT Administration, the Mandate Secretary, Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, described the donation as a major boost to the Renewed Hope Agenda for Nigerian women, especially the ordinary woman who may not have access to expensive advanced medical treatment.
She noted that the donation is a follow-up to Nordica Fertility Centre’s earlier support through the provision of a Colposcopy Machine, which has contributed significantly to the early detection and management of cervical cancer and other reproductive health conditions.
According to Dr. Fasawe, Wuse District Hospital is now the first and currently the only public hospital in Nigeria to possess the advanced HIFU technology, positioning the FCT as a leader in the delivery of innovative, non-invasive women’s healthcare services.
“This donation represents renewed hope for Nigerian women. It will provide access to world-class treatment for gynecological conditions without the need for invasive surgery and at a significantly reduced cost to patients,” she stated.
The Mandate Secretary further announced that the first 100 eligible patients will benefit from the HIFU treatment free of charge, with the Health Services and Environment Secretariat covering the cost of the procedures as part of efforts to improve access to quality healthcare.
She commended the Managing Director of Nordica Fertility Centre, Dr. Abayomi Ajayi, for his unwavering support and commitment to women’s health, noting that his intervention continues to make a positive impact on healthcare delivery within the FCT.
Dr. Fasawe also called on healthcare professionals, institutions, development partners, and other stakeholders to intensify awareness and education on cervical cancer prevention, screening, and treatment, stressing the need for collective action towards eliminating the disease.
In his remarks, the Director General, Hospitals Management Board, ably represented by Director Clinical and Diagnostic Services Dr. Osagie Osayande applauded the Mandate Secretary for her visionary leadership and relentless efforts in attracting strategic partnerships and innovative healthcare solutions to FCT hospitals.
He noted that under her leadership, healthcare facilities in the FCT continue to distinguish themselves through the introduction of modern technologies and patient-centered services.
“This is another remarkable achievement for the FCT health sector. The HIFU machine is a valuable addition to our healthcare infrastructure and will greatly benefit residents by providing access to safe, effective, and non-invasive treatment options,” he said.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of Nordica Fertility Centre, Dr. Abayomi Ajayi, expressed delight at the opportunity to partner with the FCTA in improving healthcare delivery and advancing women’s health outcomes.
He reiterated Nordica’s commitment to supporting initiatives that expand access to quality reproductive healthcare and improve the wellbeing of women across Nigeria.
The HIFU technology offers a safe, precise, and non-invasive treatment option for selected gynecological conditions, reducing recovery time, minimizing complications, and improving overall patient outcomes.
